Job Description

The selected individual will support evaluation and development of various emerging reentry concepts and mechanicaldesigns for the Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM) Advanced Reentry Technologies organization.

The Advanced Reentry Technologies organization is primarily a Systems Engineering group responsible for oversight, development, and coordination of Advanced Reentry Body (RB) Programs/Projects within the FBM Reentry Systems Directorate.
Specific responsibilities for this position include:
• Evaluating conceptual reentry designs from a mechanical perspective, taking into account aero, thermo, and structural dynamic properties
• Determining feasibility of reentry body designs based on material properties performance and manufacturability
• Coordinating with the Reentry Development Programs team as concepts transition into development
This includes support of the following Reentry projects:
• UK TSC Advanced Reentry efforts including UK Successor RB/RV Programme
• W87-1 Navy Feasibility Study
• MK4A SSNT Program
This position requires coordination across various design disciplines, flight sciences, FBM Missile SEIT, other organizations within the Reentry directorate, as well as the SP28 customer. The selected individual will report to the Advanced Reentry Technologies Manager. The position is in Centennial, Colorado and will require periodic travel to Sunnyvale, California in support of knowledge transfer activities.

Desired skills

• Candidate has experience in materials engineering, including composite structures
• Candidate has experience in assessing mechanical designs for manufacturability
• Candidate is familiar/knowledgeable of Reentry, Reentry Bodies, Reentry Vehicle Technologies
• Candidate has demonstrated knowledge of the FBM program (architecture, processes, procedures and systems) and Trident II (D5) Reentry System
• Candidate is familiar with the Navy SSP Reentry customer
• Candidate has familiarity with the DoD Reentry and DOE/NNSA (SNL, LANL, LLNL) customer and associated contractors
• Candidate has a Top Secret clearance or ability to obtain a Top Secret Clearance
• Candidate is willing to travel
• Minimum of 5 years mechanical or aeronautical design engineering experience or demonstrated equivalent job experience
