Leads the sales and marketing efforts of the external adhesives and coatings business. Develops strategic plan including a detailed tactical action support plan that will drive a rapid growth rate with targeted profitability. Effectively uses leadership and people skills to make decisions regarding the best means of utilizing personnel, fixed assets and Avery-Dennison’s brand in advancing profitable revenue. This position is responsible for both championing quantitative and qualitative objectives.
General
• Overall responsibility for managing business development efforts for global business. Responsible for profitably growing the business.
• Responsible for clear, focused leadership to further reduce the barriers to delivering competitive advantage via global size and scale.
• Work effectively across company divisional boundaries to gain assistance and collaboration from non-PPD functions through negotiation.
• Negotiates customer sales agreements.
• Actively engage in utilizing company/industry best practices to increase efficiency and profit margins.
• Responsible for delivery of short-term and long-term results in order to develop and maintain the organization’s credibility with the business and create opportunities for the function to add greater value.
• Translate market trends and customer needs into actionable goals that create competitive advantage.
• Identify, assess, develop and manage new program and new business opportunities for assigned area leading to successful commercialization efforts. Work with prospective customers to identify unmet needs and implement initiatives to meet those needs.
• Ensure intellectual property is protected.
• Work with Marketing to formulate strategy and select key target markets, identify prospective customers, and identify unmet customer needs. Work to identify products needed to meet those needs.
• Participate in trade associations and technical conferences related to target markets opportunities
• Key contributor in the development of strategic and operating plans (i.e., AOP’s, strategic plans, etc.).
Strategic Transformation and Long-term Strategy Development
• Develop and implement long-term business development strategies geared toward developing greater market share and profitability.
• Define the value proposition to the market, customers and industry including service, price and product platform strategies.
• Set pricing strategies and monitor pricing and profitability with product line leaders.
• Develop and execute appropriate business plans/multi-generation product plans to identify trends, opportunities for marketplace advantage, and new ideas for products, processes and services.
• Develop objectives, goals, strategies and measures (OGSM) for assigned area and confirm linkage to global business strategies.
• Develop personal contacts with major clients.
• Play personal role in negotiations of major contracts.

• Establishing business annual goals are complete, communicated and implemented into team member GPS’s.

• Bachelor’s degree required, MBA preferred.
• 15+ years business experience to include the following industry knowledge: PSA converter/end user experience; familiarity with emulsions, solvent & HM adhesives; and field sales to converter application development. Known and respected in the industry.
• Product/market planning with demonstrated successful execution.
• Field sales management.
• P & L responsibility: must have strong business and financial acumen.
• Business development: entrepreneurial by nature and experience.
• This will require excellent organizational and people skills, project management skills, with an ability to openly convey information to team members in a timely, concise manner.
• International experience.
• Experience in strategic leadership needed, international eperiencexposure preferred.
• Experience negotiating contracts.
• Experience in planning & forecasting, with practical experience in researching new opportunities and implementing successful account penetration.
• Understanding of applicable computer systems, such as Microsoft Office, Lotus Notes and function specific software.
• Domestic and International travel required
• Excellent oral, written communication and presentation skills.
