Director of Marketing

Central Garden & Pet Company (NASDAQ:CENT), is a leading innovator, marketer and producer of quality branded products for the pet, lawn and garden supplies markets.  Central Avian & Small Animal (CASA), a division of Central Garden & Pet and a leading innovator, marketer, and producer of quality wild bird and small pet products, is searching for a Director Marketing to join the Strategic Business Unit (SBU) in Chilton, WI.  CASA is home to Kaytee and SuperPet products – the leading brands in their fields.

The Director Marketing is responsible for maximizing profit contribution of assigned product line through strategic planning and effective management and execution of pricing, new products, packaging, merchandising and promotions, while adhering to budget and volume expectations of the organization. Reporting to the Vice President of Marketing, the Director Marketing works closely with department managers and personnel throughout the company.

Key Responsibilities

• Provides leadership in development of marketing strategy and execution of marketing plans for category.




• Develops the annual marketing plan and the strategies, tactics and resources necessary to achieve system and goals.




• accountable for the results of the category strategies




• Develops appropriate forecasts in conjunction with sales and operations and revised to reflect market realities.




• Provides leadership in the design, development, and implementation of products and service lines for the category.




• Oversees and provides direction in obtaining and utilizing market and competitor analysis.




• Prepares presentations at all levels to explain current and future strategies on the category.




• Collaborates with other marketing executives across the Pet Group and parent company to ensure alignment and leverage of knowledge and practices.

Experiences/Skills/Education

• Bachelor’s degree in business with a major in communications, marketing or business management.  MBA preferred.




• A minimum 10 years of experience with consumer-based products is preferred.




• Demonstrated track record of past success, including new product launches




• Ability to plan and organize work effectively, meet deadlines, analyze problems, propose reasonable solutions, make logical decisions, carry-out decisions made, and follow-up with feedback where appropriate. 




• Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects concurrently




• Ability to work with and through others is essential to accomplish the goals and objectives of the company.




• Requires excellence in written and oral communication




• Intermediate knowledge and working ability of Microsoft office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook),




• Analytical abilities are required in budgeting, analyzing sales results and market research




• Works effectively with others in the organization to accomplish stated goals.

Working Conditions

• Work is performed largely in an office environment




• Hours of work will generally be during regular business hours and average at least 40 hours a week




• There will be some variation in work hours due to special projects, deadlines, and other concerns




• Occasional out-of-town and overnight business travel (air or auto) is required
