Senior Product Marketing Manager, Collaboration Products

Novell, Inc.

Provo, Utah or Boston, Mass. 

 

Novell is seeking a dynamic high-tech product marketing professional for a breakout opportunity on Novell’s end-user computing solution and product marketing team to redefine the enterprise collaboration market. This person will be responsible for marketing Novell Pulse, the first real-time collaboration platform for the enterprise. Additional responsibilities include product marketing for other technologies that support Novell collaboration solutions. This is a highly entrepreneurial position. The right candidate will have a proven background in taking new technology products to market, understand today’s varied delivery models (cloud, on-premise, etc.) and be able to successfully define the market opportunity, the products and their value, and customer targets in an ambiguous environment.

 

These breakthrough technologies differentiate Novell Collaboration solutions, which span personal and team productivity, and collaboration data management, and play a critical role in both driving growth and serving Novell’s loyal customer base. Novell is an innovative leader in the enterprise collaboration market with 20+ years of expertise and market credibility.

 

The right candidate will work closely with other collaboration-focused product marketing managers and the collaboration solution manager, in addition to a cross-functional, highly motivated team, including local and international representatives from product management; services; sales; and partner, corporate and field marketing.

 

This is an individual contributor role with responsibilities that include defining market opportunity, product value and customer targets; developing product messaging, marketing strategy and programs; creating collateral, sales tools, competitive information and Web content; participating at events; delivering internal/public/press/analyst presentations; coordinating with global sales and marketing teams, etc. Position requires periodic travel.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

 

Work seamlessly with a cohesive marketing team that works both together and independently to drive the strategy and execution for the company’s end-user computing marketing efforts.  Take ownership for product market success and drive idea creation and follow-through to enable sales teams to achieve revenue goals. 

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

l        Thoroughly understand current customer needs/requirements for relevant product segments.  Understand how Novell’s offerings can meet customer needs, stand out from the competition and serve customers’ broader business goals.

 

l        Thrive in an entrepreneurial team environment yet drive and deliver on individual responsibilities. 

 

l        Contribute to market requirements documents and market plans with an understanding of market trends, competitors, market segments, and marketing strategies and tactics, with the goal of enabling sales teams, building awareness and generating demand for Novell’s end-user computing offerings to accomplish business goals.

 

l        Develop awareness, enablement and lead generation tools including Web text, brochures, white papers, presentations, etc. and work with worldwide field operations team to enable the partner, sales, consulting, and services organizations to compete effectively and succeed in the market.

 

l        Support teams such as field marketing, corporate marketing, corporate communications, analyst relations, public relations, and event marketing with content and participation in their plans and activities.

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

 

Individual Contributor.  Reports to Director of Solution and Product Marketing for the End-User Computing focus area.

 

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

– MBA preferred; Bachelors Degree required in Business, Marketing or similar major

– Minimum of 8 years of high-tech marketing experience, preferably in collaboration technologies/solutions

– Experience enabling and/or selling through the solution provider channel

– Experience working with a cross-functional and international team

– Strong entrepreneurial, strategic and functional marketing skills

– Demonstrated messaging and positioning writing skills

– Excellent communication and presentation skills

– Self-motivated; ability to take ownership about assigned projects; ability to work independently and with a team

– Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work in a team environment and participate as a team member

– Attention to detail to produce high-quality deliverables

– Flexible to meet the changing needs of the team and willingness to take on new responsibilities and assignments
