As Director, Consumer Marketing Field Excellence, you will interface with the community of COMO “role owners” in Microsoft’s consumer business groups (Windows Client, Windows Mobile, Windows Live, Bing and MSN), HQ operational groups (CMG, SMSG Operations, MSIT) and “segment” teams (retail, OEM partner, DPE) to drive impact for the COMO organization in our subsidiaries and regional HQ’s. You will drive the programs, change management approach and processes that advance our COMO organizational capability and marketing readiness--and also hold Redmond, the regions, and the subs accountable to deliver on org capability development, readiness and role-owner community initiatives and commitments.
Responsibilities:
Build Extended Role Community for COMO. Introduce strategic program to align the COMO role owner community and “sub touch” across the Redmond BG’s, CMG, Operations, IT, etc. Launch structured outreach framework and cadence that ties to the existing RoB calendar. Understand and share best practices for building meaningful connection between COMO marketing role owners and their communities on the field.
Own and drive COMO Org Blueprint Strategy and Org Capability Optimization for COMO (Consumer ROMI). Drive analysis and recommendations on marketing capability and capacity status of Microsoft subsidiaries. Includes marketing role composition, talent, mix and vendor mix. Bring forward recommendations for strategic updates to COMO marketing org blueprint and/or role all-up Microsoft consumer marketing role taxonomy. Develop decision rights (SLA) model across segments and RACI’s as needed to evolve roles.
COMO Leader On-boarding & Development/Training. Drive global program for COMO Leader Community Development & Bench Strength. Design and run new COMO Leader on-boarding program and year-long “immersion” program. Implement innovative training and professional development opportunities for existing COMO Leaders to empower them to be successful in their current roles
COMO Org Onboarding & Career Development. Ensure there is a New Hire Ramp Up Plan for each COMO standard title and onboarding content created for each COMO role by the COMO role community. Partner with HR/MMPD to drive COMO awareness/adoption of Career Model Framework and alignment with BMO where needed. Work across the role owner community to develop specific career path for each role. Approve Hiring Guide for each standard title. Provide business requirements to key systems and tools owners to improve ability to analyze COMO current state. Evolve COMO role profiles and long job descriptions in Role Guide and manage COMO role community to update them as needed.
COMO Org Compensation. Work with COMO (and BMO) role owner community to create/update the compensation plan assignment, scorecard and revenue measures for our consumer marketers (where appropriate). Identify compensation issues and work with specific role owner and WWCOMO Leader to drive changes to compensation plans in order to meet the changing needs of the business.
COMO Org Commitments, Readiness & Communications. Work across the role owner community and WWSMM owners to develop a framework for COMO FY Consumer Audience Marketing Commitments (content and cascade) and identify additional strategic priorities. Set overall fiscal year readiness priorities and determine role/discipline content development plan and usage plan for Readiness/Learning Roadmap.
Consumer Marketing FieldEx Resources. Develop method for content management and global publishing to the "role" community. Implement system for tracking ongoing feedback on performance of Role Owners (Profession owner, Discipline Owner and Standard Title owners) from a representative sample of people in the role community, field operations, and Role Owner Council (ROC).
Outcomes You Will Drive:
Global Field Marketing Governance and Advocacy processes are quantitatively and qualitatively improved and closed-loop cycle of continuous improvement is implemented for Consumer Audience Marketing globally.
Field and Redmond roles/dependencies and needed in-subsidiary organizational capabilities, processes, and resources are clearly defined and documented. Accelerate capability development as well as identification of key strategies and org/process levers to drive efficiency and effectiveness.
Top Consumer Audience marketing, and operational results/outcomes for each subsidiary and region are clearly defined and documented; needed organizational change management and decision rights updates are communicated in a predictable reliable manner. COMO organization agile and adaptable to meet changes in market conditions, optimize and seize new market opportunities.
COMO HQ team recognized as best practice leader for Redmond-based marketing capability and talent management, community development and communications, and cross-group collaboration.
Position Requirements
Qualifications include college degree (MBA/Masters preferred) and at least eight years of relevant experience in strategy, planning and a deep understanding of business financials and business operations within field sales or marketing environments in the personal computer industry. Experience working with Executive level managers required An ability to work effectively in high pressure / fast paced environments while communicating clearly and directly with stakeholders at all levels along with an ability to work effectively in high pressure / fast paced environments while communicating clearly and directly with stakeholders at all levels.. The successful candidate will also have the ability to develop a deep understanding of business requirements for organizational capability development, talent development, and integration with performance management frameworks and systems. And, you must have a proven track record of strong negotiation skills and building change management solutions by selling in the value proposition for change and building smart incentives and driving win/win scenarios.
