The School Education Group (SEG), a division of McGraw-Hill Education, has an opening for a Senior Vice President (SVP) of Strategic Marketing. This individual will manage several marketing-related functions which directly impact SEG’s revenue, profit, market share and growth.
Responsibilities:
- Portfolio Analysis - Accountable for the on-going analysis, evaluation and prioritization of SEG’s overall product portfolio. Make recommendations based on strategic fit, financial justification, required investment, current or anticipated revenue and competitive positioning. Collaborate on the allocation of resources across SEG to ensure accelerated payoff of investments.
- Pricing/Packaging Strategy- Working closely with Learning Solutions Center (LSC) and Marketing leads to manage SEG’s pricing and packaging strategy. Utilizing competitive intelligence and market research data collaborate with finance to create pricing initiatives and guidelines focused on top line success and profitability. Recommend packaging of print and digital products which meet both financial and competitive goals.
- Market Research - Initiate and direct research to determine trends, industry needs and customer requirements so product offerings are optimized and appropriately positioned. Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to draw conclusions and make well founded decisions.
- Competitive Intelligence - Monitor all aspects of key competitors to gain foreknowledge of their plans and analyze their strengths, weaknesses, strategies, decisions and capabilities. Develop strategies to meet competitive threats and/or develop strategies to achieve competitive advantage.
- Develop strategies to maintain and build the Company’s existing brand in educational markets.
- Distribution Strategy/Channel Management - Research and analyze alternative distribution channels.
- Government Affairs - Monitor legislation which can impact the industry. In collaboration with Corporate Communications and Government Affairs, maintain effective relationships with industry groups (e.g. AAP), elected officials and their staffs in order to best represent SEG’s position to special interest groups, agencies and legislative representatives. Attend legislative and regulatory hearings as needed. Manage strategic alliances (AASA, NABS).
- Responsible for preparing monthly reports and coordinating MOR presentation for the group.
- Responsible for preparing responses to requests for information from corporate functions such as Investor Relation
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree preferred (MBA)
- More than 10 years relevant experience in print and technology-based, PreK-12 product development and management
- 5-10 years experience developing business plans, performing market analysis and
- building/managing budgets
- Demonstrated ability to drive innovation in teams and products
- Highly competent in digital markets
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong organizational, planning, and prioritization skills
- Exceptional analytical, quantitative, problem-solving and negotiation skills
- Proven ability in leading staff development and working successfully with cross functional teams
- Demonstrated ability to form solid relationships at all levels
