Senior Product Manager - WWLP Product Licensing. Ready for a dynamic role with cutting-edge business challenges and rapid professional development in a high-performance environment? Join the team driving Microsofts future product licensing strategy as part of Worldwide Licensing and Pricing! WWLP is the group within Microsoft responsible for licensing our products and online services to organizational customers - commercial enterprises, governments, and academic institutions. As part of WWLP, you’ll help drive nearly half of the company’s revenues while dealing with some of the most complex business problems facing the company.
For example, part of the job is to help senior executives analyze and develop options for solving complex licensing problems. As technology trends erupt, competitors react, and our own products evolve, the person filling this job will be involved in high-profile issues that impact longer-term strategic direction for our product-development teams. Recent licensing issues in which the product-licensing strategy team is playing a key role include alternative computing models, Software as a Service, server and desktop virtualization, and proliferation of handheld devices. Virtualization, in particular, will continue to be a major focus of your role as we continue to evolve the capability of Microsoft server products to meet this market demand.
Another part of this job is to design new business models for a portfolio of our products that may include offerings like Windows Server, Windows 7, Office, and SQL and to support the commercial launch of new offerings. Responsibilities include understanding customers’ use scenarios for the technology; working with the product teams to assess strategic and financial impacts of different use rights or restrictions; and collaborating with legal, communications, licensing programs, and sales teams to finalize those licensing policies
The focus across all of the work is to maximize Microsofts long-term profitability through innovative product licensing by balancing multiple goals and audiences. These include meeting customers’ business needs, driving standardization, simplicity and consistency of use rights across products, making it easier for our sales force to sell, and helping our customers license and deploy our products effectively.
People in this role interact regularly with VPs, General Managers, Directors, channel partners, and customers. To be successful in this job, you will need to have strong problem-solving skills think strategically, be able to drive for results while dealing with ambiguity, be a self-starter, be extremely passionate, and work well in cross-group collaboration situations. A minimum of 5-8 years of demonstrated work experience and leadership in technology, consulting, or business management roles and at least a bachelors degree in Business or Technology with an MBA strongly preferred. Familiarity with impact of technology and business impact strongly desired.
