JOB DESCRIPTION

Safetran has been a leading U.S. Railroad Supplier and Manufacturer since the 1920’s. Safetran Systems is a full range supplier of switch machines, railroad wayside signal systems, rail transit signaling and rail-highway grade crossing active warning systems. Products include electro-mechanical signal devices, the electrical/electronic control systems, which activate them and the communications systems as well as complete signal system design and construction. The Product Line Manager, Positive Train Control is responsible for overseeing the customer service requirements of existing product lines and development of new product lines, including working with R&D and sales account managers to develop customer required features.
This position is the key driver of our business strategy within his/her line of responsibility. This role will require in-depth knowledge of our customers, market conditions, the technical capabilities of our product, our competitive position and future possibilities. The job will also require an ability to work through uncertainty to craft a coherent strategic path. It will also require an ability to influence senior management to recognize the opportunities and a consistent communications plan to brief management on progress/obstacles

A. *Interacts with internal customers in regard to product costing, product quality issues, delivery and scheduling.
B. *Manages product life cycles, including new product development and product roll out.
C. *Communicates with engineering services on product development and enhancement.
D. *Communicates with suppliers and third party engineering in relation to new product development, product enhancements, and product delivery.
E. *Consults with sales account managers regarding details of current and possible future projects with customers.
F. *Completes market analysis of competitor’s products and pricing. This includes developing presentations to propose product opportunities to upper management for consideration.
G. *Communicates with customers on product requirements and enhancements required to meet their needs and to determine that the quality and deliver of product meets their expectations.

H. *Communicates with customers to determine what new projects may be available and to insure that Safetran is positioned to increase revenue with these customers.
I. *Communicates with Estimating department to prepare bid proposals.
J. *Works with R&D and EM Engineering to evaluate problems and determine solutions for product issues as well as enhancements.
K. *Structures supplier agreements with Supply Chain and Contracts Administration and then communicates terms and conditions of agreements with the suppliers.
L. *Prepares product revenue forecast.
M. *Conducts strategic pricing reviews and action plans.
N. *Inspects field installations as required.
O. *Writes or assists with the development of customer requirements and specifications for new products and current product enhancements.
P. *Prepares or assists with preparation of Product Information and Customer Service Bulletins.
Q. *Researches and analyzes competitor actions and status in marketplace and prepare appropriate responses.
R. *Identifies potential acquisition targets and joint ventures.
S. *Attends trade shows and demonstrates new products.
T. *Provides new product training to sales force.
U. Attends Company and industry-related meetings, as required.
V. Establishes individual goals which are aligned with the Company’s business strategies and objectives.
W. Functions as a contributing member of the department’s team and other teams, as assigned.
X. Performs other duties as assigned by executive leadership.

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
A. Ability to maintain considerable levels of concentration while working under frequent time pressures and constant interruptions.
B. Ability to frequently maintain visual attention for extended periods of time.
C. Ability to frequently sit for extended periods of time.
D. Ability to occasionally stand for extended periods of time.
E. Ability to occasionally carry/lift 10 to 40 pounds from floor and above shoulders.

A. This position requires working in the internal and external environments.
B. This position may require working with or around dangerous equipment or devices that could injure self or others.
C. This position requires working nights, weekends or non-regular hours to meet deadlines.
D. This position requires frequent travel.


 



EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
A. 4 year degree or equivalent experience.
B. 3- 5 years of industry specific experience.
C. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
D. Understanding of electrical and mechanical design.


 



EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS
A. Computer and peripherals.

Industry experience highly preferred
