The Position                                                                                      


Vice President of Marketing and Sales


 


Reporting to the President and CEO, the Vice President will be an integral member of the executive management team with responsibility for providing the vision and leadership in crafting marketing and sales strategies for this rapidly growing nutritional supplements service provider.  The candidate will provide principal leadership and manage all aspects of the company’s strategic marketing initiatives.  The successful candidate will be responsible for continued development of a successful and productive marketing organization, and creating an industry-leading sales organization. 


 


The ideal candidate will have executive level experience building and managing world class marketing and sales teams.  The candidate will posses a strong business to business background and has demonstrated expertise managing; strategic planning and execution, sales management, supplier management, direct marketing programs, web (internet) management , strategic pricing programs, brand management, as well as corporate communications functions.  Our client is looking for someone who can understand and relate customer feedback and concerns, conduct proper market/customer analysis and then drive processes internally and externally, working closely with the leadership team, professional services and operations department.


 


 


Key Functions / Responsibilities:


 



  • Plan and execute marketing and sales of company’s services to the Nutritional Supplements market.

  • Drive the strategy development, planning and execution of all corporate marketing, marketing communications, direct marketing, Emerson Direct, and segment marketing in support of key marketing strategies and initiatives.

  • Lead marketing and web programs, PR, marcomm, and segment marketing teams in achieving key business objectives while managing budget against plan.

  • Drive a differentiation strategy; establish and maintain a position of quality and trustworthiness in the nutritional healthcare industry; showcasing “service” capabilities and product, service and geographic breadth.

  • Recruit and lead a team of motivated and talented marketing professionals.

  • Lead marketing organization through defined and measurable performance objectives.

  • Enthusiastically work to build and lead a new sales organization through defined and measurable performance objectives

  • Hire marketing and support staff in the various disciplines within your perview; outbound selling, corporate communications, PR, and supplier direct marketing.  Knowledge of Retail marketing is not necessary but preferred.

  • Work with executive team to develop future growth initiatives and assist the CEO in managing the Strategic Planning process.

  • Develop relationships with strategic customers, trade groups, professional organizations and supplier partners, conducting visits to better understand their needs.

  • Responsible for strategic initiatives to include; key drivers, deep understanding of our addressable market, market segmentation, competitive landscape, and competitive positioning.

  • Responsible for company positioning including generation of value proposition, branding and messaging.

  • Develop targeted and creative go-to-market plans which maximize market awareness.

  • Analyze and understand customer needs and requirements as they relate to the application of company capabilities.

  • Work with industry analysts, healthcare practitioners and scientific experts that cover this market.

  • Work alongside senior management team in the presentation and articulation of the companies objectives, and performance to those objectives, to the board of directors.


 


 


Requirements:


 


The ideal candidate must be willing to engage day-to-day to help drive, define and own marketing at Emerson Ecologics.  He/she will have exclusive ownership of sales delivery and client acquisition strategies.  He/she will have experience in the nutrition industry, alternative healthcare, functional foods, business-to-business marketing global or national distribution services businesses, or related experience.


 


Candidate will have a strong business background and a strong interest in applying knowledge in a customer-oriented environment (Healthcare Practitioners and their Patients).  The candidate will have exceptional communication skills and interpersonal skills, an ability to construct, plan and prepare proposals and an ability to formulate and execute a thoughtful and deliberate marketing plan.


 


The candidate will be interested in working in a fast-paced, stimulating organization and enjoy tackling the complex challenges associated with attaining acceptance of an emerging service provider model in the fast growing integrative healthcare marketplace. 


 


A positive attitude with the ability to motivate and lead a team of business professionals is a must.


 


 


Education and Experience:


 



  • 7+ years of Director/VP of Marketing level experience

  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in Direct Marketing and sales with a pharmaceutical, nutritional food, nutraceuticals/supplements, distribution services, and/or related background.

  • Previous Selling or Sales Management experience a plus.

  • Bachelor’s degree but a Masters’ degree strongly preferred.  Solid industry background preferred; licensed practitioner a plus.

  • Demonstrated understanding of the challenges associated with commercializing a services business.

  • Able to interface successfully with a highly professional team, customers and suppliers.

  • Proven record of effective leadership and mentorship of a team.

  • Lead or have developed a fully integrated e-commerce strategy; strongly desired.

  • Experienced in preparation of budgets and forecasts.

  • An ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment; willingness to get actively involved in the day-to-day activities of the business.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong presentation skills.

  • Willingness to travel approximately 40% of the time.

  • Ability to work hard with a positive attitude.

  • Experienced at working across an organization effectively with his/her peers as well as with employees at all levels.

  • Small-company experience is a plus.
