JOB DESCRIPTION
The Server and Tools business is looking for an experienced and highly motivated leader with a strong passion for technology to drive product marketing to the developer community for a business group focused in the High Performance Computing domain (HPC).

HPC is one of the fastest growing industry trends today, driven by commercial and academic industries embracing clustering to solve technical and business problems that only a few years ago required dedicated supercomputers.

This is a unique high-profile role that will interact with the executive leadership of the Server and Tools Business, product development and marketing leaders and team members across the company. The position reports to the Director of HPC Marketing.

The Director of Developer Marketing will be responsible for both the ownership of the HPC value proposition to Developers and collaboration with the HPC product development team and the platform developer team in the BG Application Platform Group. This position requires extensive cross-group coordination, strong business and thought leadership, extraordinary people development, outstanding leadership capabilities, and the ability to deliver comprehensive business strategies to the most senior levels of the company. S/he will be a trusted partner for product planning, sales, audience marketing groups, strategic partners, and other product group leaders. S/he must thrive in a continually changing and sometimes ambiguous environment, and must be comfortable in a culture that is a combination of innovative start up and large, established business.

Strategic responsibilities will include:
  • Define the overall marketing strategy and direction for the outreach and marketing to developers for HPC that supports the group business objectives
  • Define open source strategy for HPC
  • Influence the business strategy for developers that spans multiple developer products
  • Drive market opportunity analysis to take products and initiatives for developers to market
  • Build end-to-end implementation plans for campaigns including goals, target audience, call to action, budget and measurement criteria
  • Lead in partnership special competitive assessments and recommendations
  • Eventually build and lead a team of senior product marketing professionals
  • Work effectively with partner and field teams, Finance, and other marketing teams across Microsoft
  • Regularly present and evangelize to senior leaders within Microsoft
  • Be a key spokesperson with customers, partners, press and analysts to communicate the vision and product roadmap
  • A small amount of domestic and international travel is required per year

Key Success Factors - The successful candidate will have the following experience:
  • Minimum of 12 years of software product marketing and technical experience
  • Computer science degree or 3-5 years of software development experience
  • Demonstrated excellent analytical, decision-making skills and willingness to take on big challenges and solve complex problems
  • Demonstrated success in incubating new products
  • Ability to make strategically-sound decisions with little information in an ambiguous environment, and be able to influence change and drive process and structure
  • Familiarity with standard market research methodologies and experience managing foundation market research through actionable implementation of results in messaging deliverables
  • Strong communication, collaboration, presentation and negotiation skills
  • Executive presence and maturity
  • Highly self-motivated, self-sufficient, and able to work effectively with various internal Microsoft groups to gain leverage and synergy
  • Ability to continue to drive for results in the face of long market adoption cycles in a highly matrixed organizational structure

The ideal candidate will also have:
Knowledge of parallel programming techniques, high performance computing systems, and scientific computation methods
Software experience working in large financial services, pharmaceutical, government, academic, or energy industry institutions
MBA or equivalent business experience
